Welcome to Y5

Our Learning  - Autumn 1

This half term offers a wide range of exciting learning opportunities across the curriculum.

In Mathematics, children will develop their understanding of place value before moving on to addition and subtraction, building both fluency and confidence with number.

Our work in English is centred around Tales from the Caribbean by Trish Cooke. Through this engaging text, pupils will practise their summarising skills and start to explore story writing.

The Science curriculum focusses on Earth and Space, where children will investigate the movements of the Earth, Moon and Sun, and learn more about our solar system.

History lessons will explore Islamic Civilisations, with particular attention given to the remarkable achievements of medieval Baghdad and its importance as a centre of learning and innovation.

Through Religious Education, pupils will study cosmology, considering different beliefs and perspectives about the origins and nature of the universe.

Ancient Egypt provides the context for our Music learning, as children develop their understanding of musical notation and how music can be recorded and shared.

A study of architecture will form the basis of our Art curriculum, giving pupils opportunities to explore design, structure and creativity through a range of artistic activities.

During Computing lessons, children will take their first steps into web development by learning how to use HTML to create and edit webpages.

Physical Education remains an important part of the week. On Mondays, pupils will work with Mr Swales to develop their football skills. Thursday sessions are split between fitness training for the boys with Mr Khalid and swimming lessons for the girls at Eccleshill Pool.

We look forward to an enjoyable and successful half term as the children engage with these exciting areas of learning.
