Welcome to Year 1!

In Year 1, children begin their journey into formal learning, building on the strong foundations laid in our Early Years classroom. This is also when we start following the National Curriculum, helping children take their next big step in education.

In our classroom, we nurture independent learners. As the year progresses, we encourage children to take greater ownership of their learning, preparing them confidently for Year 2. Phonics is a key focus, and we use the Read Write Inc. programme alongside engaging games and interactive resources to make learning fun and effective.

How you can support at home:

Your involvement makes a huge difference! Please support your child by:

• Reading with them daily
• Helping them complete homework sheets
• Practising letter sounds regularly

Your encouragement and support are truly invaluable in helping your child thrive.

Routines:

• The school day starts promptly in class at 8.30 am. If your child is late to school, please bring them to the school office to sign them in.
• Please make sure all belongings are labelled.
• Homework / spellings will be given out on a Friday and collected in on a Monday. 
• PE days - Tuesday afternoon and Thursday morning.
