It was fantastic to welcome all of our children and staff into school on World Book Day - dressed in their finest pyjamas and loungewear to enjoy reading all day!
All of our children also engaged in poetry reading and writing - which we celebrated together in an assembly on Friday afternoon. From Key Stage 2, we heard epitaphs, limericks, haikus and a musical rap as well as poetry from Key Stage 1 celebrating what they appreciate around them and the well-loved book Please Mrs. Butler!
Thank you for all of the contributions to our school book fund - which gained a further £138 on World Book Day.
We hope that our focus on enjoying reading, and specifically poetry, can by built upon at school and home.
Good Morning Parents and Carers,
On Friday we will be holding a McMillan Coffee Morning to raise money for the cancer charity. In addition, parents and carers will have the opportunity to gain skills and pick up information on how we teach Phonics across the whole school, including ideas and suggestions of ways you can support your child at home.
We look forward to seeing many of you at the event on Friday 14th October at 9.00am in the school hall.
Kind regards,
Mrs. Hargreaves and Miss Vincent

On Friday 1st July 2022, we will be holding our first JU:MP Fun Day Event here at St Philip's CE Primary Academy. Parents, carers and families are invited to join us for the whole afternoon 1.00-3.00pm to get involved in activities with the children and to see some of the work they have completed in class.
Some of our Year 5 and 6 pupils have been training and are now our JU:MP Stars! They will be leading activity stations for children and parents to join in with together. Each participant will get a Trail Card. You use these cards to collect stamps for joining in the activities, which can then be traded for a prize once all 6 stamps have been collected.
We look forward to seeing everyone at the event!
Mrs Hargreaves
Across Bradford, all of the Year 6 pupils have been reading a shared text - Boy 87 written by Ele Fountain. Here is a short synopsis of the book:
Fourteen-year-old Shif and his best friend Bini are ordinary boys with big ambitions, but their world implodes when they attract the attention of the military "giffa". Wrenched from their families, they're sent to a remote desert prison, where their cellmates are barely clinging on to life.
This collective approach is to give all of the children across the district a shared experience, and a book that they can all talk about no matter which secondary school they attend.
To celebrate this coming together of all of the schools in Bradford, the team behind the approach organised a district-wide event, inviting all of the Year 6 children and their teachers to Bradford City football ground, where they enjoyed music, entertainment and a presentation by the author herself!
Today, the children at St Philip's CE Primary Academy have been celebrating National Numeracy Day. It would be great for our parents to ask their children about the number activities they have completed today!
